BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Writers' Association on Friday released a joint statement expressing strong indignation over, and condemnation of, Japan's so-called "purchase" of the Diaoyu Islands.
Ignoring the Chinese government's resolute opposition to the move, the Japanese government announced that it "purchased" the islands to "nationalize them" on Sept. 10, overtly infringing upon China's territorial sovereignty and seriously hurting the Chinese people's feelings as well as the two countries' relations, said the statement.
"China's literary and art workers voice strong indignation over and rigorously condemn the vile behavior of the Japanese government," it said, adding that they won't tolerate "any nation impinging on China's sacred territory."
"With true affection for our motherland and people and a sense of responsibility for our nationality, we will firmly stand together with all Chinese people and resolutely support any necessary measures and actions of justice carried out by the Chinese government to safeguard the country's territorial sovereignty," the statement added.
The statement reiterated that Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islets have been an inherent part of Chinese territory since ancient times, and China has indisputable sovereignty over them. Enditem
