Beijing Trade Association for Performances announced on Friday it would not hire any stars involved in drug abuse or prostitution following recent high-profile arrests of wayward celebrities including movie superstar Jackie Chan's son.

"Celebrities should not only keep a good image in the public but also should be disciplined off the stage," said Liu Zhongkui, deputy head of the association.

Liu told Xinhua that as a performance brokerage firm, they will not hire or organize activities for any celebrities involved in drug abuse or prostitution.

The association and 42 Beijing preforming-arts organizations signed an anti-drug commitment earlier this year, promising not to hire any celebrities who use drugs.

China has detained a string of celebrities, including movie and television stars and film directors, in recent months on drug-related and prostitution charges.

Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese kung fu star Jackie Chan, was formally arrested in Beijing on Wednesday following a drugs bust in his residence in Beijing on Aug. 14. Endit
