WEIFANG, China, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese National Youth Team drew 1-1 with Wolfsburg of the German Bundesliga here on Sunday in the opening game of the 11th Luneng Weifang Cup International Youth Football Tournament.

The German side played more aggressively during the game, achieving a ball possession of 70 percent with 20 shots. The Chinese played in defense in the first half, and seized an opportunity from the free kick in the second half.

Both sides failed to score any goal in the first half, as the players all missed the target with lob shots.

In a determined attempt to goal in, the Wolfsburg made several substitutions when the second half kicked off, and in the 74th minute, the German team took the lead in the game when David Nieman volleyed the ball into the net.

The Chinese then leveled the score in the 86th minute, heading in a corner from the leader Jin Haoxiang.

The scoreboard remained unchanged until the final whistle was blown.

China coach Huang Chuanhong said the Chinese youngsters played good with such strong opponents.

Wolfsburg coach Thomas Reis, on the other hand, was disappointed with the result.

"We had so many chances to goal in, and it is such a pity to let go the opportunity," he said. Enditem
