BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed lower Thursday, with the coal and real estate sectors falling the most.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.24 percent to close at 3,357.81 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.83 percent lower at 11,098.34 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses expanded to 552.6 billion yuan (about 83.8 billion U.S. dollars) from 523.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

According to a document published by Beijing local authorities, individual buyers will be able to buy homes with property rights to be shared by the government and buyers.

This is part of the government's efforts to provide affordable housing and stabilize the property market. The buyers will enjoy the same rights in household registration and children's schooling as other home owners, according to the document.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, fell 1.05 percent to close at 1,872.77 points. Enditem
