SHANGHAI, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai New York University (NYU Shanghai) will launch a digital teaching and learning program on Feb. 17, the university said Friday.
A total of 281 courses including Photography, Global Marketing Strategy and Computer Networking will be taught online to keep students on track and make progress toward their degrees.
To contain the novel coronavirus outbreak, schools in Shanghai are required to delay the opening of the 2020 spring semester until the end of February.
About 820 students will sign up for the program, including international students from Africa, the Caribbean and the United States.
NYU Shanghai's technology team has minimized technical bottlenecks and teachers redesigned the courses to ensure students to be fully engaged in class even if they are not sitting in a physical classroom.
"I enjoy the flexibility of online courses. I think online classes are a good experience for the working world, as they teach us how to collaborate digitally with other people," said Gao Tiantian, an international student at NYU Shanghai.
According to school officials, even after in-classroom instruction begins, the university will proceed with a "Mixed-mode" phase, where courses will be offered both online and in person in case there will be students unable to return immediately to campus.
NYU Shanghai is also working to generate innovative plans for using digital technologies to keep various student-led organizations active this spring. Enditem
