Taiwan confirms three new COVID-19 cases

TAIPEI, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Three individuals were confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Saturday, raising the total number in Taiwan to 53, the island's epidemic monitoring agency said.

All of the new patients had traveled to Europe recently and were suspected of having contracted the virus there, the agency said in a press release.

One of the patients, a Dutch national in his 30s who arrived in Taiwan on March 10, developed symptoms of dyspnea, chest tightness and fatigue on March 11, the statement said.

A man in his 30s living in northern Taiwan had been to Turkey, Switzerland and France from Feb. 28 to March 8 and developed symptoms of fever, fatigue, cough and a runny nose on March 12.

The other local man in his 30s had been to Germany from Feb. 22 to March 6 and showed symptoms of cough and throat pain on March 11.

They have received treatment at isolation wards, the statement said.

Among the confirmed cases, 26 were imported. A total of 20 patients have recovered and one died of the disease while the rest are in stable condition, according to the agency. Enditem
