BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- A production line of rare earth hydrogen storage alloy electrodes has started operation, the Science and Technology Daily reported Friday.

The production line, developed by a new energy technology enterprise under the Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was built with independent intellectual property rights.

So far, 280 kg of electrode products made by the production line have entered the market.

The rare earth magnesium-nickel-based hydrogen storage alloy electrode material can improve the capacity of batteries by 30 percent, said the report.

Abundant experiments have demonstrated that nickel metal hydride power battery products made of the new material can keep vehicles' operation stable, even in extremely cold conditions.

The nickel metal hydride power batteries with the new rare earth magnesium-nickel-based hydrogen storage alloy electrodes have great potential in hybrid vehicles and solid state hydrogen storage and hydrogen fuel cells. Enditem
