FUZHOU, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- California State University Northridge forward Ou Junxuan was selected by the Shanghai Sharks as the top pick in the 2020 China Basketball Association Draft on Friday in Quanzhou, east China's Fujian province.

The 21-year-old power forward, who is 2.10 meters tall and tips the scales at 106 kilos, averaged 4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.4 block shots in his two seasons of Men's Division I Basketball Tournament of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the U.S.

"It is exciting to be selected as the first pick, but at the same time it means pressure," Ou said. "Of course I want playing time, but it requires a lot of hard work and self-discipline to prove what I am capable of."

Ou moved to the U.S. at 16, and played for California State University Northridge in the NCAA's Men's Division I Basketball Tournament in the past two years.

"My role model is Yi Jianlian, whose self-discipline always inspires me to be a better player," Ou said. "I will start training as soon as I go back home tomorrow to gear up for the coming CBA season."

This is the second consecutive year that the top three picks have all been college players, with Ou snatching the first place, followed by Zhu Mingzhen from Peking University and Benson Lin from Bryant University.

Of the 64 candidates, 19 players were picked by CBA clubs after two rounds of selection. Enditem
