BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

BDS SHORT MESSAGE COMMUNICATION

The short message communication services provided by China's BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) have progressed from industrial application to public application, according to a conference held in Beijing on Saturday.

A series of achievements related to the BDS-3 short message communication services were revealed at the conference, including new mobile phone functions and satellite-Earth technology solutions.

ROCKET DEBRIS

Debris from the last stage of the Long March-5B Y3 carrier rocket reentered the atmosphere at 12:55 a.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), the China Manned Space Agency said.

The vast majority of the device burned up during reentry and the debris fell into the sea, with the center of the landing area at a longitude of 119.0 degrees east and latitude of 9.1 degrees north, according to the agency.

DIGITAL ECONOMY

China's digital economy reached 7.1 trillion U.S. dollars in 2021, according to a white paper on the global digital economy.

The country's digital economy accounts for more than 18 percent of the amount of 47 major countries included in the white paper, ranking second after the United States, said the white paper issued by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. Enditem
