BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

HIGH-ENERGY COUNTERPART OF FAST RADIO BURST

Chinese scientists have detected an X-ray burst associated with a fast radio burst (FRB) and confirmed that it originated from a magnetar in the Milky Way, according to the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The discovery was made on Saturday using the Gravitational Wave High-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) telescope.

Xiong Shaolin, principal investigator of GECAM and a researcher with IHEP, noted that this is the second time in history that humans have managed to detect a high-energy counterpart of an FRB.

COLD REGION ELECTRIC RIVERBOAT

A cold region electric riverboat has been launched on a tributary of northeast China's Songhua River, according to the China Science Daily on Tuesday.

The intelligent cruise riverboat, about 27 meters long and six meters wide, is equipped with four groups of lithium iron phosphate batteries with a total capacity of 600kWh. It has a designed total tonnage of 138 tonnes and can seat 53 people.

The riverboat is driven by two 60kW permanent magnet synchronous motors. Their efficient propellers provide both sound seakeeping and maneuverability.

RICE YIELD

A rice yield of about 1,136 kg per mu (approximately 0.067 hectares) was recorded on demonstration farmland in east China's Anhui Province, a major rice-producing region of the country, according to researchers from the Anhui Agricultural University.

The rice cultivation technique utilized by the research team has been shown to withstand seasonal high temperatures and drought. Enditem
