BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

HYPERSPECTRAL EARTH OBSERVATION SATELLITE

China's hyperspectral satellite for Earth observation has gone into use after completing in-orbit tests, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the primary developer of the spacecraft, announced on Tuesday.

The satellite, Gaofen-5 02, was launched into space on Sept. 7, 2021. Designers mounted seven payloads on it, including short-wave infrared hyperspectral cameras.

HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTING MAGLEV TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

China's independently developed high temperature superconducting electric maglev transportation system has completed its first suspension run, according to its developer CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. in northeast China's Jilin Province.

Composed of the sub-systems of vehicle, track, traction power supply and operation communication, the high temperature superconducting electric maglev transportation system is suitable for the application scenarios of high-speed, ultra-high-speed and low vacuum pipelines.

It can operate at a speed of 600 km/h or above.

COMPLEX COLOR PATTERNS IN PETALS

Chinese scientists have revealed the mechanisms underlying the formation of complex color patterns on Nigella orientalis (Ranunculaceae) petals.

Researchers from the Institute of Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences analyzed the cellular bases, chromogenic substances, reflectance spectra, developmental processes, and underlying mechanisms of complex color pattern formation on N. orientalis petals by conducting detailed morphological, anatomical, biochemical, optical, transcriptomic and functional studies.
