JINAN, China, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Port reinforced its first place in the table by beating Cangzhou Mighty Lions 3-0 at home in the 18th round of the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Friday.
Shanghai Port showcased their fine form, securing an ideal start in less than a minute. A strategic pass from Vargas to Wang Shenchao evolved into an assist as Lv Wenjun slotted the ball into Cangzhou's net.
Despite the obvious gap between the two teams, Cangzhou put up a positive offensive performance, creating several opportunities. Yet the scoreline remained unchanged up to half-time.
Wu Lei's prowess was on full display in the 48th minute. He sidestepped Cangzhou's defenders and scored for Shanghai Port, extending the lead to 2-0.
A miscommunication between Cangzhou's defender and goalkeeper on the edge of the penalty area in the 81st minute gave Shanghai's forward Kallon a golden opportunity. He seized the moment and scored, cementing the final victory.
Shanghai Port has now accumulated 43 points in the CSL table.
Meanwhile, Tianjin Jinmen Tigers drew 3-3 with Shenzhen FC, making a return to their former home field after a decade. Shenzhen took the lead in the 31st minute when Liu Yue executed a low shot. From then on, Shenzhen managed to maintain the leading position for most of the match.
In the 87th minute, Xie Weijun netted his second goal, enabling Tianjin to keep the game in check. Despite late-game confusion, the 3-3 score held firm until the final whistle.
In another Friday match, Henan FC held Nantong Zhiyun to a 1-1 draw. Enditem
