CHENGDU, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's Joao Coelho and Australia's Nathaniel Holder both surpassed the FISU record to pocket their respective gold and silver medals of the men's 400 meters race at the 31st FISU World University Games here on Thursday.
After Coelho and Holder clocked in an identical 44.79 seconds, the Portugese was awarded the title by 0.003 seconds.
"I am very satisfied with the result. I never thought I would break the FISU record. When I hit the finish line, I did not know I made it. Chengdu makes my dreams come true. I am very happy," said Coelho.
In the women's 400m, South Africa's Marlie Viljoen took the first place with 52.38 seconds.
China's Su Wen from East China Normal University added another gold for the tally leader by reaching 17.01 meters twice in his second and sixth attempts in triple jump.
"Though I managed to exceed 17 meters both in the qualification and final, they were not my best results. Breaking 17 meters mark is a new beginning for me, and I will continue to work hard," said Su.
Ukraine's Vladyslav Lavskyi reached personal best of 2.25 meters in the men's high jump to grab a gold.
Italy's Alice Muraro and Laura Pellicoro have become the queens of women's 400 meters hurdles and women's 800 meters race.
Germans dominated men's 3,000 meters steeplechase as Christian Mergenthaler and Nick Jager notched the top two positions with 8:38.42 and 8:40.53.
After 1,500 meters race, Czech Republic's Vilem Strasky claimed the men's decathlon title with a total score of 7,925 points.
The gold medal of men's 1,500 meters went to French Benoit Campion, who finished in 3:38.61. Enditem
