BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The convention on the suppression of unlawful acts relating to international civil aviation will come into effect on Sunday, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The convention was adopted by the International Conference on Air Law held under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization in 2010 in Beijing, and was ratified at the 37th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress in October 2022.
It stipulates that unlawful acts that endanger the civil aviation safety that have already occurred or may occur are crimes and urges contracting parties to impose severe penalties for the crimes covered in the convention.
The document is conducive to refining the system of international aviation security conventions and strengthening the protection for civil aviation security, the CAAC said, adding that it will play a positive role in ensuring the safe and healthy development of China's air transport industry.
So far, 46 countries and regions including China, Russia, France, Germany and Singapore have ratified the convention. Enditem
