MACAO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) declared a "state of immediate prevention" on Sunday afternoon due to the approaching of Typhoon Koinu.
The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau hoisted Signal No. 8, the third-highest level, and issued a blue storm surge warning at 16:30 local time.
It said Typhoon Koinu was located within 100 km of Macao at 16:00 local time, expecting the local winds and rains to strengthen.
As a precaution, local schools have suspended classes, buses have gradually stopped services in the afternoon, and ferry services have been called off. Additionally, a total of 77 flights were canceled on Sunday. Enditem
