LANZHOU, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A summer camp is offering young people from Taiwan a unique experience at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mogao Grottoes, and the renowned Danxia landform in northwest China. They will also have the chance to visit the local countryside and a photovoltaic power industrial park.

The summer camp kicked off on Thursday in Gansu Province, with approximately 30 participants attending the opening ceremony. They included Taiwan individuals living in the mainland, Southeast Asian countries and Spain, as well as volunteer college students in Gansu.

Ku Wan-yu, a student at Feng Chia University, expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to visit the mainland, explore historical relics, and savor a wide variety of cuisine. She hopes to learn about her peers' lives and to foster new friendships.

The summer camp comes as part of an annual activity held by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots in regions across the mainland to facilitate exchanges between youngsters across the Taiwan Strait. Since 2004, more than 20,000 young people from Taiwan have taken part in the activity, according to the Federation.

Around 1,500 young people from Taiwan will participate in this year's summer camps in places including Fujian and Beijing. The camp in Gansu is expected to run until July 11. Enditem
