Sci-fi thriller "Alien: Romulus" stays atop China's box office chart

BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- 20th Century Studios' sci-fi thriller "Alien: Romulus" remained at the top of the Chinese mainland's daily box office for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.

The movie, which is the seventh installment of the successful "Alien" franchise, grossed over 37.62 million yuan (about 5.27 million U.S. dollars) on the day.

It tells the story of a group of young space colonists who encounter the universe's most terrifying life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.

The domestic crime film "Go for Broke" ranked second on the daily chart with a revenue of 18.53 million yuan.

The Japanese animation "Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram" came in the third, earning 11.08 million yuan on Thursday.

The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Thursday hit 97.71 million yuan. Enditem
