CHANGSHA, China, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's He Jinyi clinched the title in an international highline competition held this weekend in central China's Zhangjiajie city, a location that served as one of the inspirations for the scenes in the movie Avatar.
Twenty-one elite slackline walkers from China, France, Spain, Japan, Costa Rica, and Indonesia competed in the event. They walked on a 120-meter-long, 2.5-centimeter-wide, 2-millimeter-thick slackline, suspended more than 1,000 meters above the ground, while participating in multiple speed races.
Slacklining, often referred to as "ballet on a rope," is an emerging sport that originated from rock climbing. It is known for being both highly entertaining to watch and incredibly challenging to perform.
Highlining is the most extreme form of slacklining, where competitors perform at heights of hundreds of meters or more above the ground.
"Last year I took part in a Sino-French Highline Friendly Match in Yueyang City of Hunan Province, and this year I am very happy to be here in Zhangjiajie. The view is unique. And I have had a lot of exchanges with Chinese and Japanese competitors, who are very enthusiastic," said Philippe Soubies of France. Enditem
