BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.4 percent to 2,837.43 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.31 percent lower at 8,078.82 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 496.61 billion yuan (about 69.73 billion U.S. dollars), down from 511.46 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to humanoid robots and nursery services were among the biggest gainers, while the environmental protection and distilled spirit sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.05 percent to close at 1,531.45 points Wednesday. Enditem
