BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua met with Miguel Angel Oliver, president of Spanish news agency Agencia EFE, in Beijing on Thursday.

Fu noted that Xinhua is China's state news agency and a global news agency, while EFE is a news agency of important influence in the international media community and the Spanish-speaking world.

Since the 1970s, the two media organizations have maintained sound cooperation, Fu said, expressing the hope that both sides will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as news exchange, personnel exchanges and new media development to push bilateral relations to a new level.

Fu added that the World Media Summit, jointly initiated by Xinhua and other renowned international media organizations, has become an important framework for global mainstream media to strengthen exchanges and cooperation. He welcomed EFE to continue to actively participate in activities under the summit mechanism.

Oliver introduced the news operations of EFE, noting that the Spanish news agency attaches importance to increasing the global influence of its news report.

He said EFE looks forward to deepening cooperation with Xinhua and jointly exploring the application of new technologies to improve the performance of media. Enditem
