BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters raised its emergency response to floods and typhoons from Level IV to Level III in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Friday after Super Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Hainan.

A working group has been sent by the headquarters to Guangxi. Meanwhile, it maintained a Level-II emergency response to floods and typhoons in Guangdong and Hainan provinces.

In response to the severe impacts of the typhoon on Hainan, the national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief also activated a Level-IV disaster-relief emergency response.

A working group has been sent by the commission to the affected areas to assess the situation, and to provide guidance and assistance to local authorities in ensuring the basic needs of disaster-stricken people.

Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, made landfall in Hainan on Friday afternoon, according to the province's emergency management headquarters.

The country's National Meteorological Center on Friday morning renewed a red alert, the highest level, for Yagi, which made its second landfall in Xuwen County under the city of Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, around 10:20 p.m. Friday.

China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe response, as well as a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Enditem
