BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.17 percent to 2,717.12 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.63 percent lower at 8,054.24 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 515.57 billion yuan (about 72.4 billion U.S. dollars), up from 499.56 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Shares related to internet insurance led the gains, while the fentanyl and Chinese liquor sectors suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.42 percent to close at 1,551.81 points Thursday. Enditem
