FUZHOU, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- East China's Fujian Province on Monday activated the Level-IV emergency response to potential wind, rain and high waves brought by Pulasan, the 14th typhoon this year.

According to local meteorological authorities, Pulasan was formed on Sunday night in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, with the center observed at about 2,360 km southeast of China's Diaoyu Islands at 8 a.m. Monday. The maximum wind speed near its center was 18 meters per second, and the typhoon is forecast to move northwest toward China's east coast at a speed of 20 to 25 km per hour.

The Fujian provincial headquarters for flood control and drought relief has asked local governments of the coastal areas to monitor the typhoon closely and brace for its influence.

Bebinca, the 13th typhoon of this year, made landfall in Shanghai on Monday morning, lashing the city with gales and torrential rain. Enditem
