CHENGDU, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chilean star Nicolas Jarry and Spain's Pedro Martinez, seeded third and fourth respectively, emerged victorious on their debuts at the ATP 250 Chengdu Open on Friday.

Jarry defeated Slovakian player Lukas Klein 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes. The 28th-ranked Chilean served 19 aces to end a seven-match losing streak since the Rome Masters final in May.

"I'm very happy with my performance, it's been a very difficult month and I try to improve every day. I feel like I've made some progress from yesterday to today, so I'm happy with it. I know I can play better, but I'll take it step by step," said 28-year-old Jarry.

Martinez rolled past Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes. The world No. 42 converted three break points to reach his fourth hard-court quarterfinal.

In doubles, Chinese wildcards Mo Yecong and Tang Sheng upset Zimbabwean brothers Benjamin Lock and Courtney John Lock 6-3, 7-6 (8) to claim their first ATP Tour-level win.

The remaining four singles second-round matches are scheduled on Saturday. Top seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy will make his long-awaited debut in Chengdu against Australian Christopher O'Connell in their first head-to-head, while second-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan will face Argentinian qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez.
