SHANGHAI, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Dutch cyclist Mylene de Zoete from the Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling Team took the lead after the first stage of the 2024 Tour of Chongming Island here on Tuesday.

De Zoete completed the 108.9 km stage in two hours, 29 minutes, and seven seconds, earning the yellow jersey, awarded to the rider with the shortest total time in each stage. She also claimed the green jersey, given to the rider with the highest total sprint score.

The 25-year-old Dutch rider said the rainy weather didn't bother her much. "I don't mind the rain. There are a lot of straight roads here and no dangerous corners, so it's okay," said De Zoete.

Regarding the team's strategy, she added, "We wanted to do some sprints to be in front with multiple girls. It's a hard final with big roads and a lot of chaos actually, but it went well in the end."

Qi Wenjia of the Bodywrap LTwoo Women's Cycling Team was the highest-ranked Chinese rider, finishing sixth. "I hope to achieve a better result in the next stage. Competing against top riders from around the world has been a valuable experience. They are all strong and skilled, and I hope to make breakthroughs in the future," said Qi.

The Tour of Chongming Island, as part of the 2024 UCI Women's World Tour, runs from October 15 to 17, featuring 99 riders from 18 teams competing over three stages for a total distance of 349.3 kilometers. Enditem
