BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.54 percent to 3,285.87 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.85 percent higher at 10,559.51 points.
The combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses stood at 1.91 trillion yuan (about 268.17 billion U.S. dollars).
Stocks related to home appliances, furniture and food led the gains, while those in the electronics and shipbuilding sectors suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.3 percent to close at 2,216.99 points Tuesday. Enditem
