BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.57 percent to 3,470.66 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.44 percent higher at 11,235.92 points.
The combined turnover of the two markets exceeded 2.5 trillion yuan (about 348.87 billion U.S. dollars), down from the 2.56 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares in the Baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) and insurance sectors led the gains, while those related to precious metals and the military industry suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.75 percent to close at 2,350.76 points. Enditem
