Stolz clinches two golds at ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Nagano

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- American Jordan Stolz claimed gold in both the men's 500m and 1,500m to start strong on the opening day of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Nagano, Japan, on Friday.

20-year-old Stolz triumphed in the men's 500m with 34.43 seconds, 0.15 ahead of the runner-up Laurent Dubreuil of Canada, while Japan's Tatsuya Shinhama finished third.

Later on, Stolz also pocketed the men's 1,500m gold in one minute and 43.65 second, followed by Sander Eitrem of Norway in the second place. China's Ning Zhongyan won a bronze in 1:44.69.

In the women's race, Yukino Yoshida seized the 500m title in a personal best of 37.74 seconds, followed by Poland's Andzelika Wojcik and Kim Min-sun of South Korea.

Japanese skater Miho Takagi secured a victory the women's 1,500m in one minute, 55.02 seconds, while Han Mei of China took the silver with 0.16 seconds behind. Joy Beune of the Netherlands clocked 1:55.58 to take the bronze.

On Saturday, the champions of the men's 1,000m, men's 5,000m, women's 1,000m and women's 3,000m will be decided. Enditem
