HONG KONG, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Giant panda twins, born to Ying Ying, a giant panda gifted by the central government to Hong Kong, celebrated their 100th day on Saturday.
Ocean Park Hong Kong held a celebration event on Saturday to mark the occasion. Many visitors, dressed in giant panda-themed attire, waited outside the park in the morning. They received red eggs and pork knuckle ginger stew. According to Hong Kong customs, when a family has a newborn child, they distribute these foods to share joy.
Throughout the park, there were numerous cartoon images of the panda twins and welcome banners. The panda twins' father, Le Le, made a public appearance again at the park.
"I'm so delighted that Hong Kong has a new pair of panda cubs," said 75-year-old Lo, who brought a panda doll to take photos.
For the first time, Ocean Park launched a live streaming session to show real-time footage of the panda twins. The female panda cub was the first to appear, lying on the bed and stretching occasionally.
Later, caretakers placed the male panda cub on the bed to interact with the female cub. The two pandas kept moving their bodies and snuggling with each other, prompting cheers from the crowd.
According to Ocean Park, the panda twins have grown teeth, with the female panda cub, initially weighing 122 grams at birth, now weighing 5.3 kg, and the male panda cub's weight increasing from 112 grams at birth to 5.5 kg.
Kevin Yeung, secretary for culture, sports and tourism of the HKSAR government, said that the HKSAR government, jointly with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Ocean Park, will collaborate with various parties in Hong Kong to organize a series of promotional activities, with the new Hong Kong giant panda family serving as Hong Kong's tourism ambassadors.
Furthermore, the third pair of giant pandas, An An and Ke Ke, gifted by the central government to Hong Kong, are in good condition and they are expected to meet the public in December, Yeung said. Enditem
