BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday released a think tank report introducing a domestic public welfare project providing audio descriptions of films, an effort to ensure equal access to culture for visually impaired individuals.

The report, titled "China's Efforts to Safeguard Cultural Rights for the Visually Impaired: Insights from the 'Cinema of Light' Public Welfare Initiative," was released in Chinese and English by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development and the National High-level Think Tank of Xinhua News Agency.

"Cinema of Light," initiated by faculty members and students of the Communication University of China (CUC) in 2017, produces replicable and distributable films with voice descriptions inserted during pauses in dialogue and sound effects, providing explanations of the visual content, emotions and meanings behind the scenes.

The volunteer project has been participated by more than 800 faculty members and students at the CUC over the past seven years.

It has produced more than 600 films featuring audio descriptions, available to be screened online and in schools for the visually impaired and other specialized venues across the country, according to the report. Enditem
