BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.12 percent to 3,368.86 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.29 percent higher at 10,634.49 points.
The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.5 trillion yuan (about 208.68 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.66 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares of companies in the printing and packaging, media and entertainment, and electronic information sectors led the gains, while those related to the papermaking and food industries saw significant declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.36 percent to close at 2,221.46 points Thursday. Enditem
