BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Jianchun, former deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has been expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office, China's top anti-graft body said on Tuesday.
The decision was made following the conclusion of an investigation into Zhang for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, according to a statement released by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.
The investigation revealed that Zhang accepted arrangements for banquets, accommodation, travel and other activities that may influence the fair execution of his official duties, violating the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct.
It added that Zhang had been uncooperative in the investigation into his case and failed to report personal matters according to relevant regulations.
Zhang was also found to have abused his power to seek benefits for others in matters including business operation, project contracting, and job promotion, accepting huge amounts of money and property in return.
In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel him from the Party, remove him from public office, and confiscate his illicit gains.
Zhang was also deprived of his qualification as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress.
The case will be referred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution, according to the statement. Enditem
