JERUSALEM, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Israeli authorities have arrested an Israeli citizen on suspicion of being recruited by Iranian intelligence to plan attacks inside Israel, the Shin Bet security agency and police said Tuesday.
The suspect was identified as Ardelar Israel Amoyal, 23, a resident of Jerusalem. He was arrested in November and allegedly acted under Iranian direction in exchange for money.
The State Attorney's Office filed a prosecutor's statement on Tuesday, signaling its intent to file an indictment. Amoyal's detention was extended until Friday.
Amoyal allegedly spray-painted graffiti reading "Sinwar" -- a reference to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar who was killed in an Israeli attack on southern Gaza in mid-October -- in Tel Aviv, photographed houses and streets in Jerusalem and Netanya, a coastal city north of Tel Aviv, and planned to obtain a silenced handgun and materials to build an explosive device, the statement said.
The investigation revealed that Amoyal proposed to his Iranian handlers to burn a police car and disrupt the electricity supply to the Jerusalem Light Rail, according to the statement.
Iran, considered by Israel as its arch-foe, has not commented on the allegation. Enditem
