ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Shang Liguang, former deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China Shanxi Provincial Committee, was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment for accepting bribes.

Between 1999 and 2023, Shang took advantage of his various positions to assist others in matters such as business operations, project contracting, case handling and job promotion, and illegally accepted money and valuables worth over 104 million yuan (about 15 million U.S. dollars) in return, according to the verdict issued by a court in the city of Luoyang, Henan Province.

Per the verdict, the defendant has been deprived of his political rights for life and his personal properties have been confiscated, while his illicit gains confiscated will be turned over to the national treasury.

In light of the fact that Shang had remained cooperative during the proceedings, he was granted leniency by the court. Enditem
