NANCHANG, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Guang, former vice president of Beihang University, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for accepting bribes.
He was also fined 2 million yuan (about 278,000 U.S. dollars), and all his illegal gains will be seized and turned over to the state treasury, according to a verdict issued by a court in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Zhang was found to have exploited his various former positions related to the university from 2008 to 2022 to assist others in areas such as business operations, school admissions and employment, in exchange for bribes totaling over 21.2 million yuan.
Considering mitigating factors, such as Zhang's truthful confession after his arrest and the recovery of all his illicit assets and proceeds, the court handed down a lenient sentence, according to the verdict.
Zhang was expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office in January 2024.
He had been placed under investigation in August 2023. Enditem
