BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese naturalized striker Hou Yongyong is set to join Chinese top-flight club Yunnan Yukun, according to a Chinese media report.
"Hou Yongyong is to join Yunnan Yukun soon. After the Chinese national team's training camp closes, he will travel to Yunnan for a physical examination before going to Thailand with the team for preseason training," the Guangzhou-based newspaper Soccer News reported on Thursday.
Hou is now training with the Chinese national team in preparation for its remaining World Cup qualifiers in Haikou, Southern China's Hainan province.
His performances as the top scorer of the Norwegian second-division last season caught the attention of the Chinese side head coach Branko Ivankovic who called him up for the 10-day training camp.
When asked by Chinese media about his future plan at the training camp, the 27-year-old forward said he wanted to play in a top-level league, adding that the Chinese Super League (CSL) could be more competitive than the Norwegian second division.
Yunnan Yukun, which secured promotion to the CSL last season, will be the second CSL club Hou serves after his stint at Beijing Guoan from 2019 to 2023. Enditem
