ALMATY, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan is set to transport 1.5 million tons of oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in 2025, maintaining the same level as in 2024, the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency reported on Wednesday, citing the Kazakh Energy Ministry.
In 2024, oil transportation through the BTC pipeline reached 1.4 million tons. It was previously reported that the 2024 plan was set at 1.5 million tons.
At the end of last year, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev noted that Kazakhstan is exploring the possibility of significantly increasing oil shipments via the BTC, potentially reaching up to 20 million tons per year.
Kazakhstan began exporting oil via the BTC pipeline in 2023 to diversify its export channels. In April 2023, KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan signed an agreement to transport 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil annually through the pipeline.
