BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.51 percent to 3,230.16 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.49 percent lower at 10,176.17 points.
The combined turnover covered by these two indices stood at about 1.36 trillion yuan (about 189.7 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.14 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to insurance, banking and education led the gains, while the consumer electronics, power supply equipment and precious metal sectors suffered significant declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.37 percent to close at 2,093.31 points. Enditem
