ALMATY, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company, has upgraded over 50 percent of its passenger railroad cars over the past decade, the Kazinform News Agency reported Thursday.
The company currently operates a fleet of 2,717 railroad cars, including 1,951 passenger cars and 220 freight, technical, and dining cars. To improve passenger services, the company has been modernizing its railway infrastructure and rail yard.
From 2014 to 2024, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy acquired 1,046 new railroad cars, with many passenger cars undergoing renovations. In 2024, 118 new railroad cars manufactured in Petropavlovsk were added to the fleet.
The company plans to purchase 12 new locomotives in 2025 and 24 more in 2026.
Kazakhstan's railways transported 17.6 million passengers last year, marking a 6 percent increase compared to the previous year. Enditem
