HONG KONG, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong stock market ended lower on Monday with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 0.04 percent to close at 20,217.26 points.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index edged down 0.03 percent to end at 7,384.11 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index dipped 0.29 percent to 4,737.46 points.

Monday marks the first trading day of the Year of the Snake. The Hang Seng Index hiked nearly 4,500 points across the preceding Year of the Dragon, the most in seven lunar years, Paul Chan, financial secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, said at a ceremony on Monday to launch trading at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Chan also said that he is "cautiously optimistic" about Hong Kong's stock market in the Year of the Snake. Enditem
