BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League (CSL) club Qingdao Hainiu announced on Friday that it has signed Brazilian midfielder Filipe Augusto as a free agent.

The 31-year-old player has signed a one-year contract with one year optional, the Qingdao club said in a statement.

Augusto boasts nearly 300 appearances, including high-level competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, La Liga, and Portuguese Primeira Liga, the statement wrote.

"As an outstanding midfield linchpin, Augusto is capable of excelling in all positions along the central axis. His arrival will enhance the organization and coordination in the midfield and defensive lines of the team," the statement added.

Qingdao Hainiu will face cross-city rival Qingdao West Coast in its CSL opener on February 23. Enditem
