HONG KONG, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's official Xinhua News Agency opened a channel for Asia-Pacific news on its mobile portal on Thursday.

The new Asia-Pacific channel, providing comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the Asia-Pacific region, will feature sections for top stories, Hong Kong and Macao news, pictures and interviews.

Addressing the opening ceremony, President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua said that Xinhua will continue to tell the stories of comprehensively deepening reforms and advancing Chinese modernization.

It will also cover stories about the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) making vigorous efforts to ensure economic growth and well-being of its residents, as well as about China working with partners in the Asia-Pacific to usher in a new era of development for the region, Fu said.

Chan Kwok-ki, chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government, said that Xinhua has been keeping the world updated on the realities and latest developments of China through timely and objective reporting. He hopes that all walks of life in Hong Kong will continue to join hands with Xinhua to tell more stories about the achievements of implementing "one country, two systems." Enditem
