TIANJIN, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- A court in north China's Tianjin Municipality upheld the death sentence for Bai Tianhui, former general manager of China Huarong International Holdings Limited, in a second trial on Monday.

Bai was sentenced to death for accepting a substantial amount of bribes by the No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Tianjin in May 2024.

The court found that between 2014 and 2018, Bai had taken advantage of his various positions to provide assistance to others in matters such as project acquisitions and corporate financing, illegally accepting bribes totaling 1.108 billion yuan (about 155 million U.S. dollars).

On Monday, the Higher People's Court of Tianjin rejected Bai's appeal and reaffirmed the death sentence. The ruling will be submitted to the Supreme People's Court for examination and approval. Enditem
