BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.51 percent to 3,408.95 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.91 percent lower at 10,879.49 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.44 trillion yuan (about 200.69 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.47 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the coal and wind power sectors saw significant gains, while those related to games and consumer electronics suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1 percent to close at 2,200.03 points. Enditem
