BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press briefing on Thursday that tariffs and other trade barriers serve no one's interests and are detrimental to global economic prosperity and stability.

Mao made the remarks in response to the latest OECD interim economic outlook report, which lowered global growth forecasts. The report notes that recent trade barriers imposed by some countries could hinder global economic growth and drive up inflation.

"I have noted the relevant report," Mao said, adding that economic and trade differences should be resolved through dialogue and consultation, not at the expense of the global economy.

"For China, regardless of external changes, we will maintain opening up, firmly support free trade principles and the multilateral trading system, promote a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and pursue common development and mutual benefit with all countries," she said.
