FUZHOU, March 27 (Xinhua) -- A joint statement aimed at boosting cooperation on maritime issues in the Asia-Pacific region was released in Fuzhou City, east China, on Thursday at an Asia-Pacific maritime safety forum.
The 24th Session of the Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies Forum (APHoMSA), held from Tuesday to Thursday, is a platform for cooperation mechanisms among maritime agencies in the Asia-Pacific region.
As the first regional cooperation statement adopted since the establishment of the mechanism 29 years ago, China proposed the statement based on the development of shipping in the Asia-Pacific region and the real needs of maritime management. It was unanimously adopted by member agencies and observer organizations at the meeting.
Under the statement, all sides will further cooperate to promote maritime safety and security, discuss regional practical cooperation, discuss green and low-carbon development, seek transformational change in shipping, and promote gender equality in maritime affairs, to better enhance maritime governance cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The mechanism now has 29 member agencies and nine observer organizations. More than 80 persons in charge and representatives of member countries of the Asia-Pacific maritime agencies, and observer organizations participated in this year's forum. Enditem
