CHANGSHA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Sammy Dismas Nyokaye and Kithome Dorcas Nzembi emerged as the men's and women's champions at the Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Marathon on Sunday.
Thousands of runners from home and abroad participated in marathon, half-marathon, 10km and 5km fun run events at the Wulingyuan scenic area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in central China's Hunan Province.
The race commenced and ended at the Wujiayu Ticket Station Square in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a place of inspirations for the scenes in the movie Avatar. Nyokaye secured the victory in the men's marathon with a time of two hours, 27 minutes and 27 seconds, while his compatriot Nzembi emerged victorious in the women's event in 2:50:52.
Since its debut in 2023, the event has gained global acclaim for its distinctive slogan:"Run through the scenery." The meticulously designed course weaved through breathtaking landscapes, while highlighting the area's rich cultural heritage.
"This is the most challenging and unforgettable course I have ever run on. It feels like traveling through a geological time tunnel," said Yojiro Furumata, a participant from Japan. Enditem
