BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.46 percent to 3,335.75 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.97 percent lower at 10,504.33 points.
The combined turnover of the two indices stood at over 1.243 trillion yuan (roughly 173.2 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to gold, computing power, bank and electricity industries led the gains, while those related to sectors including photovoltaic and tourism suffered big losses.
