Yang, York named CBA Players of the Week

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Qingdao Eagles center Yang Hansen and Zhejiang Golden Bulls point guard Gabriel York were named the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league's Players of the Week on Tuesday.

In the final three rounds of the regular season, Yang averaged 20 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.7 blocks in 31 minutes of playing time per game, as Qingdao capped its regular-season campaign with a six-game winning streak to sit eighth in the 20-team CBA standings.

Yang was also named Rising Star of the Month for the 36th-46th rounds. The 19-year-old big man started 10 games during this spell, helping Qingdao win seven of them with an average of 18.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, one steal and 2.6 blocks in 31.6 minutes of playing time per game. He shot 61.5 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 72 percent on the free throw line.

York propelled Zhejiang to three wins in as many matches over the past week, with an average of 25.7 points, six rebounds, eight assists and two steals in 31 minutes of action per game. In his side's 106-99 comeback victory over the Beijing Ducks on March 27, York nailed four 3-pointers for 20 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 34 points, eight assists and four steals. Zhejiang concluded the regular season in ninth place following a five-game winning streak.

Also on Tuesday, Guangdong Southern Tigers power forward Darius Bazley was awarded Defensive Player of the Month. Between the 36th and 46th rounds, he averaged 1.8 blocks and 6.6 defensive rebounds, with a block percentage of 6.6 percent and a steal percentage of 2.6 percent, all of which ranked among the best in the league.
