BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A specialized translation platform powered by China's AI model DeepSeek has been deployed to support Chinese rescue teams in earthquake-stricken areas of Myanmar, offering real-time language assistance to facilitate emergency operations.

The Chinese-Burmese translation tool is tailored for disaster response scenarios, according to the developer Han Lintao, vice dean of the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

It was developed one day after a 7.9-magnitude quake struck Myanmar on March 28, at the request of a group of Chinese rescuers, Han added.

"Although several Chinese-Burmese translation tools are available, none are optimized for rescue operations. The DeepSeek AI large language model enabled the rapid development of a tailored solution," said Han.

Since its launch, the tool has been continuously updated based on user feedback, incorporating features such as voice translation and map information to further support relief efforts.

Statistics showed that over 2,850 translation services have been provided through the platform.

The platform has also gained support from the National Emergency Language Service Corps Secretariat, which mobilized expertise and resources from BLCU, including specialists in language translation, speech synthesis, and speech recognition.

A rescue team from southwest China's Yunnan Province was the first international rescue team to reach the quake zone of Myanmar 18 hours after the earthquake. A China Media Group report said on Wednesday that more than 500 Chinese rescue workers are in Myanmar for rescue and relief missions.

So far, Chinese rescue teams have successfully saved nine survivors from the quake-affected areas.

According to the latest reports, the fatal earthquake in Myanmar has resulted in 2,886 deaths, with 4,639 people injured and 373 still missing. Enditem
